More Updates!

The Sharp Edge has written the next part of his story which can be found in the Fan Fiction section as per usual. For those of us who cannot get enough of the Panzer Dragoon world, it’s always good to see more fan fiction.

Also, I’ve added another theory to the Theories section about our good old friend Abadd. Truth be told, I just wanted an excuse to upload a cool CGI image of him we’ve had for some time now. What separates Abadd from Azel in terms of design I wonder?

Of Facts and Fiction

Firstly, I’d like to announce the coming of a new section to The Will of the Ancients. The Mysteries section starts with four summaries containing factual (or as close to fact as you can get with a video game) summaries of various mysteries in the Panzer Dragoon world. Geoff came up with the idea and it seemed like a logical choice for a new section as the series contains so many questions worth discussing. More mysteries can be expected in the future too, especially if fans submit their own.

The Sharp Edge has also begun writing a new fanfic called Panzer Dragoon: War of Dawn. So far he has written the Prelude which sums up the events at the end of Panzer Dragoon Saga and has promised me he’ll do his best to continue the story.

The Empire Expands its Influence

As I checked my emails early this afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised to find the first Panzer Dragoon Orta MIDI awaiting me. Thomash Lee can be thanked for creating the MIDI of Saori Kobayashi’s Gigantic Fleet, the theme of the fourth episode of Panzer Dragoon Orta. The MIDI itself is very nicely done and will also be available on VGMusic.com, where a more detailed summary of the MIDI will be able to be viewed soon.

Generic Update

Updates have been few and far between recently due to a shortage of time. However, rest assured that we have plenty of content planned for the future, both near and distant. I feel we need more Panzer Dragoon Orta content, so I wrote a little piece of prose regarding something that has crossed the minds of Orta fans everywhere at least once: her gun which up until the time of her escape was obviously invisible the whole time. There can be no other explanation! How else could the gun have appeared out of nowhere?

I’ve narrated illustrated moments leading up to the escape to focus on a few oddities (namely gaps in time and the lack of a gun at any point during the initial cinematics), and put forward an idea or two that might equate to something reasonable theory-wise.

If any fan would like to write another theory to explain where the gun came from (anything within reason), The Will of the Ancients will gladly host it.

Speculation and Art

I haven’t compiled any theories for Panzer Dragoon in quite a few months now, so I decided to write up a theory that I came up with at the old Excavation Camp (R.I.P) forums. This theory talks about the ancient texts of Zoah …what if there was a hint of truth within them? Most importantly, can these books give us an insight on how, or more importantly why, the Ancient Age perished in the dust?

Also, a contribution to the Fan Art section has been made in the form of a 3D render of the ruins of Cainus. Many thanks for this image, Bruno.

The Sky Rider: Reloaded

Avatar

Published by Geoffrey in Contributions

Just a minor update. I’ve written another theory revolving around Panzer Dragoon Saga’s Excavation Site and its possible sources of intrigue for the Heresy dragon. Plus, I’ve rewritten and reorganized much of my old, defunct Sky Rider Theory to include many new images that tie in with my Excavation Site Theory (I kept only some of the old text). I deliberately cross linked the two for the benefit of our readers who’ll see what I mean if you look closely enough. :)

Yes, I’m aware of the fact that the Sky Rider wasn’t Lundi, but here we can see why we might be led to that conclusion.

I’ve also added some extra images to my summary of Lundi in the Factions section which give a better impression of the trials he was forced to endure.

The Will of the Ancients IRC Channel

Published by Solo Wing in News

For the members of the Will of the Ancients forums (although anyone is welcome to join), I have created an IRC channel to discuss Panzer Dragoon topics in real time. For those who don’t know, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, a fast and popular chat medium for typing conversations to one another across the Internet. The details are:

  • IRC Server: irc.lunarnet.org
  • Port: 6667
  • Channel: #panzerdragoon

For more detailed instructions, see the Chat section, which has a step-by-step guide to connecting to #panzerdragoon using mIRC.

Restructured Forums and Other Additions

The current forums have been restructured. There are now three forums, the Seeker’s Stronghold, the Liberal District, and the Holy District. Hopefully this change will benefit the Panzer Dragoon community. I’ve made a thread explaining the changes, so post any questions you might have there.

A new skin has been submitted by Scorbutman. It works best if you’re using Winamp 2, however the main part still shows up in Winamp 3. You can download it from the Skins section. Also, Neil has written a poem about the drones of the Ancients, which can be read here.

A Poem, a Faction Summary, and a Piece of Fan Art

In the Fan Art section you’ll find an anime picture of Orta. It’s a nice change from the usual more serious looking CG version of the character. The image was created by Butleri. Also the Poems section has been updated with “Wings of a Dragon”, a neat poem about the dragon. Thanks to Edge Celize for this one.

Also, I have finally completed a Seeker summary, which I started back before the Factions section was even up, back in April! It’s good to finish things like this off at last and I hope readers of this site will enjoy it as much as I ended up enjoying writing it.

New "World" Section and Panzer Dragoon Saga Screenshots

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

There’s just a couple of updates to the site tonight, but they are fairly large. First up is a new section that I have been meaning to add for quite some time. The World section features all of the text from the world part of Panzer Dragoon Orta’s encyclopedia. Many many thanks to Sestrenegade for compiling all of this information, it must have taken a great portion of time.

Also, I have been taking screenshots with the GiriGiri emulator and have added thirty screenshots from Panzer Dragoon Saga to the Screenshots section. It would be safe to expect some more in the future. The new screenshots can be viewed by clicking here.

Yet Another Theory!

The Divine Visitor is said to be the player. The halls of official sources echo with the words, “Must I spell it out for you? It is the player!”, but I shall nevertheless pursue a topic that is still very much open to question like a hound dog hungry for fleshy answers. Well, what do you expect from one such as I? Smilebit want people to believe the Divine Visitor has no story to tell by covering up the real Divine Visitor under the guise of player status in order to use it as a future plot device. Of course, I exist to expose the truth! My theory shall do just that. :)

In all seriousness, I am merely exploring all the angles. The Panzer Dragoon games are renowned for their mysteries and I hope more fans will put forth their ideas without fear of being automatically deemed wrong.

The Flow of Panzer Content Never Stops

First and foremost, Neil has written the ninth chapter of his ever-revelatory fan faction, Panzer Dragoon X. The story is shaping up into something quite special.

I’ve also put together two pieces of illustrated literature that I hope our readers will find entertaining. The Old Empire, in other words the Empire gracing our screens throughout the original Saturn Panzer Dragoon trilogy, is more than deserving of a page in the factions section all unto itself. And I’ve added a new Panzer Dragoon Ending Theory to the theories section.

One last point of interest is a new Sky Rider theory our growing forum members have steadily nurtured. A wild idea I know, but was the Sky Rider really working for the Empire? This is the stuff sweet theories are made of!

New Forums Soon

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

Right. So if you’re an active member of the Panzer Dragoon community you’re probably come here to find where on earth the new forums are. For those of you who visit this site but weren’t a member of the Die Welt von Panzer Dragoon forums, let me explain:

Yesterday, lordcraymen, who is in charge of the panzerdragoon.de forums told me his intentions to close the Excavation Camp and the Town of Zoah forums completely. As the Panzer Dragoon community would otherwise be homeless, I have agreed to host a new set of forums for fans of the series on this website. The Tower of Uru (name subject to change) will carry on what the Excavation Camp started - it will act as a place for fans to discuss anything Panzer related.

However, please note that these are completely new forums! Due to the number of bugs on the old forums and the increasing difficulty to backup the database, the new forums will not contain the existing messages and rankings, so you will have to do a clean sign up once again.

The Tower of Uru should be online later today, but it will by no means be complete. I will be working on a nicer layout over the next few weeks.

The Will of the Ancients Forums Are Online

The new forums, titled “The Tower of Uru” and “Uru Underground Ruins” are ready for posting on. All the guff you need to know is basically in the first thread on the Tower of Uru forum, but if there are any questions or problems please leave a message or send me an email. These forums are incomplete in design, but should be fully working and ready for Panzer Dragoon discussion.

New URL: http://www.panzerdragoon.net

The Will of the Ancients now has its own domain, panzerdragoon.net. It’s fitting for a site that is made up of content from so many Panzer Dragoon fans. I would advise people to update their bookmarks although with an address this short it should be easy enough to remember. :)

I bought the domain along with 250 megabytes of webspace several days ago through E-Starr Webhosting. It means that the site will be able to grow bigger, hopefully with more interactive features.

Thanks to the new domain, my email address is now chris@panzerdragoon.net - I will continue to check the old one for a while however.

I should also note that I have decided to refrain from posting spoiler warnings on this site from now on. Panzer Dragoon Orta has been out for three months in Europe so everyone should have had a decent length of time to play through it. You have been warned.

Mega Website Update

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Well the holidays have finally come for me which means that I have more time to work on improving this website :) The amount of stuff I’ve been meaning to add in the last few weeks has mounted up so this update will feature a total of nine additions. Yes, you heard me correctly, nine, a record for this site! So without further delay, here they are in no particular order:

The Trivia section is something that I have been meaning to add for a while. It only features an Easy quiz at the moment, but I plan to add a harder quiz in the future.

Two Sections Updated

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Firstly, the Poems section has been extended with a new Poem about Iva, the main character of the Imperial side quest in Panzer Dragoon Orta. It was written by Neil and can be read by clicking here. It Contains Orta Spoilers.

Also, Geoffrey has written a summary of the Pure Breed/Blooded Monsters from Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Saga. It can be read here.

What would you, the Panzer Dragoon fan, like to see in the future on this website? I have a few ideas which I hope to implant, but it would nice to hear what other people think would make a good, interactive, web experience. I’m not promising anything, but drop me an email if you think of something interactive that might be a worthwhile addition to The Will of the Ancients.

New Section and Moderator

The new section is a Poems section. So far there are two poems, one about the 8th Emperor and also a poem describing the desolate world created by the horrors from the Ancient Age. Submissions are welcome, as the Panzer Dragoon world is just asking to be made into a descriptive passage. Click here to view the Poems section.

I have also made Geoffrey, who has contributed a great deal to the Literature sections of this site, a moderator. From this day onwards any changes to the website will be marked as updated by either him or myself, to save confusion of whose opinion and writing style it is. All past updates were of course written by me.

Factions and Fan Art Sections Updated

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

First up I have written a summary describing Edge, the dragon rider of Panzer Dragoon Saga. You can read it by clicking here. It Contains Orta Spoilers. If anyone is interested in making a contribution to the Factions section please send me an email saying what you would like to write so we don’t get any double ups. This site is made up of fan content, I don’t see why the Factions section should be an exception.

Speaking of fan content, Neo-Kun has sent me an oekaki of Azel he made about a year ago. It’s not poop, no matter what he says. :) You can view the image in the Fan Art section.

Additions to the Factions and Theories Sections

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

The Factions section was only launched a few days ago and already I have had a submission for it. Neil has written a Dragonmare summary, which describes these foul beasts that roam the lands in Panzer Dragoon Orta. It Contains Orta Spoilers.

Also, Geoffrey has written a new Sky Rider theory. His new idea is that the Sky Rider could have actually been part of the Heresy program. Have a read of it to see how possible this idea actually is!

The Will of the Ancients Version 2 and Factions Section

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Over the last few months I have been working on a new design for this website - here it is at last. It’s slower to load, but I think it is much easier on the eyes. Let me know what you think of it and if you spot any incorrect information, broken links, or spelling errors.

Remember months ago I promised a new section? Well it is finally ready. The Factions section consists of summaries that Geoffrey and I have been writing over the last few months. So far there are five, but several others are in progress.

I took down the Chat and Email sections. The email service had become unreliable and all the links to chat rooms no longer worked. I would rather this site be quality than quantity.

Play Panzer Dragoon Saga in 1600x1200 on Your PC!

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

This is no joke :)

GiriGiri Saturn, the first completed Saturn emulator, can now be downloaded by clicking here [link removed]. So far the results are amazing, although you will need a beast to run it. I tried it on a 500Mhz Pentium III and Panzer Dragoon Saga ran at about 5 frames per second, which is quite slow compared to the usual 25 or 30, but I have been told it will run close to full speed on a 2Ghz machine.

No matter how old your PC is (unless it is too old to load up the software) the games will look beautiful, far more cleaner looking than on a television screen. Just look at these screenshots that I took to see what I’m talking about:

  • GiriGiri Saturn 01 [image removed]
  • GiriGiri Saturn 02 [image removed]
  • GiriGiri Saturn 03 [image removed]
  • GiriGiri Saturn 04 [image removed]
  • GiriGiri Saturn 05 [image removed]

For help on getting the emulator running (it’s not so straight forward) have a read of this thread on the panzerdragoon.de forums.

Panzer Dragoon X Chapter 6

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Neil has sent me Chapter 6 of Panzer Dragoon X. The story seems to be drawing near to its conclusion, although if the story differs from the expected path I may wrong. You can read Panzer Dragoon X as well as other stories in the Fan Fiction section. If you’ve written your own fanfic and want it uploaded to this site, please let me know.

Panzer Dragoon Orta Review Complete

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

As I said in the last update, I had a half finished Orta review that I started just after I completed the game back in January. That review is now complete and is quite long for something I would write, but I found that it needed to be because of all the aspects that needed to be talked about. But there are no spoilers so if you haven’t played the game yet you can read it in ‘safety’. My review of the Japanese version of Panzer Dragoon Orta can be read by clicking here.

I’m interested in hearing what other people thought of the game. Did it live up to the Panzer name? Was the storyline as good? Reviews are a welcome addition to this website so if you write one please do send it to me.

One New Review and Two New Pieces of Fan Art

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Neil has written the first review of Panzer Dragoon Orta for this site. I should really get around to finishing my half finished one sitting here. But, alas, my time management skills are not as keen as they should be.

I have added two pieces of fan art to The Will of the Ancients as well. Firstly Atolm Rider has drawn a nice picture of the Dark Dragon from the original Panzer Dragoon game. After playing through Panzer Dragoon Orta, Neo-Kun decided to create some more Panzer art too, and came up with his nice render of Orta.
