Panzer Dragoon Orta Poster (High Resolution)

I’ve recently obtained a copy of the elusive Japanese Panzer Dragoon Orta poster and noticed that there weren’t any decent images of it available anywhere online. I decided to change this by contributing a higher quality image than there had been available previously. The image can be seen here:

I’ve uploaded two new fanart wallpapers to our website. These were created by GrenadeKitten, and were initially posted on his DeviantArt page. Our thanks to GrenadeKitten for allowing us to upload these to Panzer Dragoon Legacy!

Design Reboot: Panzer Dragoon Orta City in the Storm

GrenadeKitten also created an original character called Sigma, a robot born in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world where humans have gone extinct. She’s featured in Sigma’s Journey, a collection of 3 separate artworks. I think Panzer Dragoon fans will appreciate the art direction and theme of Sigma’s Journey, so you may want to take a look at them. Fair warning: these are somewhat NSFW, as they do contain some mild nudity.

A Compilation of Panzer Dragoon Saga's In-Game Artwork

Published by Draikin .

Years ago, I ended up trying to extract some artwork images from Panzer Dragoon Saga, the Sega Saturn classic and only RPG in the Panzer Dragoon series. While I managed to write a small program to extract the grayscale versions of the images out of the game’s files, actually getting the images in colors proved a bit more difficult. I never did figure out how to apply the color palette to the images, but I did manage to find a workaround. I looked up the exact location the Sega Saturn stored the images and the color palletes in its internal memory, and then used the Sega Saturm emulator Yabause to inject all of the images and the corresponding color palettes at the correct location in the memory, while the game was running and showing the opening menu. In doing so, I could alter the background of the start screen and grab each of the images.

The artwork consists of the following:

  • Four images that were shown when you were asked to switch between the game’s four CDs.
  • Four images shown at the end of the game when you viewed your statistics (like how much of the game’s map you explored). The image differed depending on how well you performed throughout the game.
  • The image shown in the background of the Save menu.
  • The images shown at the game’s title screen, for both the US/EU and Japanese version.

But I never did upload those images to Panzer Dragoon Legacy. More recently someone posted a thread on the forum here asking for those images, and I finally got around to uploading them. You can find them here:

Custom Panzer Dragoon Saga Wall Scroll

With the limited amount of official Panzer Dragoon merchandise/collectibles, sometimes the fans have to take it upon themselves to create new items. There are many examples of this ranging from: Panzer Dragoon coffee mugs, Panzer Dragoon key chains, to more intricate items such as carved tablets made from stone:

Azel Stone Tablet

But there is something any Panzer Dragoon fan can do: and that is make a custom wall scroll! Over at Custom Wall Scrolls you can take any of the beautiful art from the Panzer Dragoon series and make yourself a custom fabric wall scroll; printed on high quality polyester!

Here is an example of one that I recently made:

Translated PD Saga Interview by Shmuplations

Shmuplations has translated an old developer interview with some of the key staff members behind Panzer Dragoon Saga. The interview originally appeared in the AZEL -Panzer Dragoon RPG- strategy guide, and features the game’s director Manabu Kusunoki, designer Yukio Futatsugi and programmer Hidetoshi Takeshita. It’s an interview containing details that I wasn’t aware of, and it’s definitely a very interesting read for Panzer Dragoon fans. You can follow the link below to read it:

A few years ago, The Will of the Ancients also commissioned Glitterberri to translate a few pages from the same strategy guide. These contained a lot of answers to questions that fans had regarding the game’s backstory. You can find these here:

Single Physical Dragon Theory Remastered Edition

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing .

Back in 2012, we reviewed all of the articles on The Will of the Ancients as part of the effort to bring the site up to a higher standard of quality. During this clean up process we edited or rewrote most of the existing articles, but a particular article got put to one side: a theory arguing that the dragon was the same physical dragon in all four Panzer Dragoon games.

The revised version, now called the Single Physical Dragon Theory, is finally complete. If you open the page, you’ll see why we delayed editing the article for so long. At almost 10,000 words, the article discusses a wide range of interconnecting topics in great detail. Whenever we attempted to argue for a particular angle, two more holes would appear elsewhere in the theory. The theory is now about as a good it will ever be. So here it is, our behemoth for all the world to see.

The new table of contents feature at the start of the theory has also been applied to other articles on the site. Whenever an article has headings, it now has a generated table of contents. I hope this new feature will make The Will of the Ancients more accessible, especially for long articles such as this one.

Video of Unreleased White Desert Crimson Dragon Level

Back in 2012, a video playthrough was posted on Japanese website NicoGame of the White Desert level from the unreleased Xbox 360 version of Crimson Dragon. The level was featured in trailers but never made it into the final Xbox One release. The video features a girl playing the Xbox 360 version with the Kinect while Yukio Futatsugi provides a commentary.

For archival purposes I’ve made a copy of the video here on The Will of the Ancients:

Panzer Dragoon Orta Pre-Release Screenshots

As we’re closing down Lagi’s The Art of Panzer Dragoon subsite, we’ve moved the pre-release screenshots for Panzer Dragoon Orta to the main website. You can find them by following this link (screenshots 68-129 were moved):

Worth noting is that a lot of these screenshots are actually in a much higher resolution (1080p) than the actual resolution the game ran at on the original Xbox. Because of this, they actually give us a good view of how a potential Panzer Dragoon Orta HD would look on current-gen systems.

All of the Panzer Dragoon Orta art has now been copied from The Art of Panzer Dragoon to The Will of the Ancients. As with the Panzer Dragoon Saga art, we’ve retained the same category structure:

The concludes the process of moving all of the art from The Art of Panzer Dragoon to The Will of the Ancients’ archive. There still remains the screenshots to sort, which we are doing together with the other subsites (The Panzer Place and Sky Rider: The Imperial Archives) to ensure that there are no duplicates.

More Panzer Dragoon Saga Extra Tracks

The Art of Panzer Dragoon Saga

Panzer Dragoon Saga’s art from Lagi’s website has now been moved to this site. On The Art of Panzer Dragoon, the images were divided into five categories and I’ve retained this organisational structure:

Many of the images previously had generic filenames such as “townie1”. To the best I’ve my ability (and memory), I’ve renamed all of the images to the names of characters, creatures, locations, and vehicles found in Panzer Dragoon Saga as well as linking the images to entries in the encyclopaedia.

Music From The Panzer Place

In addition to moving The Art of Panzer Dragoon’s content to The Will of the Ancients, we also plan to move any worthwhile content from The Panzer Place as well. To start with, I’ve copied three music tracks that are missing from Panzer Dragoon Saga’s soundtrack. The first two are from Rhoda’s music box:

The third track is a version of The Seekers’ Stronghold which differs from the version found on the soundtrack. From memory, this version is the version that plays in the actual game:

Another update to inform you that I’ve copied six images of Panzer Dragoon (Tiger Electronics) from The Art of Panzer Dragoon to The Will of the Ancients. For this update I’ve also copied across the concept art for the Panzer Dragoon Original Video Animation. All art and screenshots have been linked to the appropriate encyclopaedia entries.

Geoffrey has also brought across Lagi’s art references article, making some minor changes to the text.

This just leaves the Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta art to be brought across.

The Art of Panzer Dragoon Zwei

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing .

I’ve moved all of the Panzer Dragoon Zwei art from The Art of Panzer Dragoon to The Will of the Ancients and linked the images to our encyclopaedia. Some image names have been updated to better reflect the English translation (this image for example, is no longer called “Ragi”), but most have been named similar to what was printed in the guidebook. Since Panzer Dragoon Zwei never named the enemy creatures in-game, the Japanese guidebook remains the best source for creature and ship names.

Next will be the large task of moving The Art of Panzer Dragoon’s extensive Panzer Dragoon Saga image collection to The Will of the Ancients.

Moving the Art of Panzer Dragoon

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing .

A while back, we added Lagi: The Art of Panzer Dragoon as a subsite on The Will of the Ancients. Since Lagi no longer wished to continue running this archive of Panzer Dragoon artwork, it was natural to move the art here.

Since Lagi’s site was originally designed as a separate site, it is not practical to integrate it with the encyclopaedia here. For this reason, and to simplify the setup here, I’ve decided to move the art to The Will of the Ancients itself. This will be a gradual process. For now, you can find just the Official Art - Panzer Dragoon category in the Pictures section. This art has been linked to the “related pictures” section of relevant encyclopaedia entries, for example in the Panzer Dragoon entry.

You can expect more images to be moved across and integrated into the encyclopaedia over the next few weeks. In the long term, I aim to merge the content from other discontinued subsites such as The Panzer Place into The Will of the Ancients as well.
