Thanks to Kevin Kenson, we're given a look at Panzer Dragoon Orta running on the Xbox Series X via backward compatibility, featuring auto-HDR, improved texture filtering, and quick resume.

On his YouTube channel, Kevin Kenson has shared some footage of backward compatible Xbox games running on Microsoft’s upcoming high-end next generation console, the Xbox Series X. The footage includes Panzer Dragoon Orta running at 4K/60fps. What’s unique here is that the game takes advantage of auto-HDR, a feature of the Series X that machine-learning to retroactively add HDR support to older Xbox titles! The Panzer Dragoon Orta footage starts at 2:31:

Even though Panzer Dragoon Orta didn’t support HDR at the time of release, it will soon be possible to play this way. You’ll be able to switch auto-HDR off in the Xbox Series X’s system settings to play the game closer to it’s original look, but from my experience enabling HDR in games can add quite a lot to the experience.

Kevin also posted an earlier video talking about the improved texture filtering in backward compatible games, including Panzer Dragoon Orta, so be sure to take a look at that if you’re interested in seeing more of the game running on Microsoft’s new console. Panzer Dragoon Orta also works with the system’s quick resume feature, so you could switch between Orta and multiple other titles quickly without having to boot up the whole game again.
