Temporary "Excavation Camp 911" Forum Online

If you’re a regular at the forum on Die Welt von Panzer Dragoon then you probably already know that the site has been down for several days now. Since the site may be down for a while, there is a temporary hosted forum which you can visit called Excavation Camp 911 which was set up by Arc’engal along with several other message boards on his Panzer Dragoon website, The Temple of Sestren.

On a lighter note… there is only four more days until the Return of Panzer Dragoon!

New Panzer Dragoon Orta Character Details Revealed

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

The Official Panzer Dragoon Orta website has been updated with a new design and some nice concept art. There is also some information about Orta and the Empire. From the rough Babel Fish translation it seems Orta is only 13 years old and for an unknown reason was isolated in a prison and raised there since she was a young child. When the Empire attacks, Orta manages to escape on the back of the dragon. The website also states that the new Emperors name is Yatsushiro.

I have also found out that the freaky looking drone we saw in the E3 trailer will go by the name of Abadd, which has been the screen name our friendly leak at the Excavation Camp for several months now! Thanks to Ryu for this information which was taken from the Gaming-Age forums.

After this update I am going to try and avoid posting anything that could even remotely be classed as a spoiler on this website. As the Japanese release of Panzer Dragoon Orta approaches more and more will be revealed about the story so I’d like to keep this place spoiler free for as long as possible. I’ll update with more info on how I will manage these spoilers soon.

A Drone's Dream Chapter and Orta Features Revealed

The third chapter of Geoffrey’s piece of fan fiction, A Drone’s Dream is now online. Being a fan of drones myself, I am finding this an interesting read and I would recommend any Saga fan to check it out. The first two chapters have also been edited in a few subtle ways, such as extra descriptions here and there. All three chapters can be found in the Fan Fiction section.

If you go to sega.jp/x/pdo you will see that there are two new modes mentioned for Panzer Dragoon Orta. The first is ‘Scenarios’ and the second one ‘Mission’. What I find exciting is the picture to the right that shows a Baldor on the screen, but no dragon. Could this be mean that Morbo is a playable character? I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough but until then it is certainly something to look forward to. Who would have thought when first playing Panzer Dragoon Saga back in 1998 that one day we would actually be able to play as one of those fearsome beasts?

What We Already Knew and a Little Bit More

Sega of Japan has released some information on features that will be available in Panzer Dragoon Orta. Most of this we already know, such as the original Panzer Dragoon being included in the package, but there is also some new information. The game will feature a films section where players can view some of the full motion videos (hopefully uncompressed this time!) from the Saturn titles. There will be an option to play through some of the game levels as different characters too.

Panzer Dragoon Zwei on PC

Published by Solo Wing in News

Sega and Kansai Multimedia plan to give users of the Broadband Club and CyberDisc service access to download emulated versions of the Saturn games Golden Axe: The Duel and Panzer Dragoon Zwei! Sega hasn’t commented on pricing or whether the games will be available through some other method, but they are expected to downloadable later this month in Japan. To run the emulated Panzer Dragoon Zwei on your computer you’ll need a Windows compatible PC with a 2GHZ Pentium 4 processor and 64MB VRAM. In other words anything less than a beast won’t be able to handle it.

New Appendix Mode in Panzer Dragoon Orta

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

Like the title says, a new option has been revealed for Panzer Dragoon Orta as part of Pandra’s Box. The Appendix option will have all sorts of images and information on the Saturn Panzer Dragoons, so those who enjoyed the past games have something to look forward to (this sounds great!). Below are some of the things that will be included in the Appendix mode:

  • FILMS
  • ILLUSTRATION
  • EVENTS
  • PANZER DRAGOON (I presume this is the complete version of the original game)

Sega will start taking reservations on November the 1st.

New Archives Section Added

A small update to say I’ve changed how the news on this site will work slightly. Basically when the main page gets more than ten news stories on it I will put them onto another page that can be viewed by clicking on a link at the bottom the screen. This should make viewing the front page a slightly quicker process. Each news story will also now have a number (this one, for example, is 26) so they’ll be easier to find. It’s all about keeping this place tidy as well as ease of use.

A Mention in the Official Xbox Magazine!

Although I’ve never intended this site to be more than a hobby and personal tribute to the Panzer Dragoon series, it’s great news that I’ve just been given a bit of extra coverage. The Will of the Ancients was mentioned in the November issue of the Official US Xbox Magazine under the old URL of azelonline.cjb.net (which still works thankfully!). I didn’t know anything about it until a Panzer fan known as Chuck emailed me about it. Since we usually get the UK gaming magazines here in New Zealand I wasn’t able to pick up a copy but Lagi kindly scanned the page so I could see it for myself. You can view the page by clicking here.

A Limited Edition of Orta Will Be Released in Japan

Those Japanese seem to get everything don’t they? Not only do they get the game first but also a limited edition featuring an extra audio CD of atmospheric Panzer Dragoon music. The CD will feature the music from the trailers of Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Panzer Dragoon Orta. I’m hoping this will be brought to NTSC-U and PAL Xboxes too, although it seems unlikely. If you can understand Japanese and are prepared to pay a bit more for the game then consider yourself lucky.

The Panzer Lagoon launches... and So Does Xbox

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

Another new Panzer Dragoon site… fantastic! The latest tribute to the series, amusingly titled The Panzer Lagoon has been set up by James “Popcorn” Duffy and contains information on all the titles in the series. It’s nice to see so many new Panzer sites popping up all over the place in the last few weeks. :)

I’ve added a new tip to the Panzer Dragoon Zwei Secrets page - a different sort of way to defeat the Episode 3 boss (which is, by far, the coolest boss in the game in my opinion). Thanks to harrisandyk@aol.com for pointing this out.

Lastly, and also off topic, today the Xbox finally launched in New Zealand! Yep, after almost a year since the Xbox was launched in the States, the rather large black box was made available in various stores around the country. I haven’t picked one up yet, but it’ll be interesting to see how long it’ll be before Panzer Dragoon Orta makes its way here. Would June 2003 be a realistic guess?

Get Two Panzer Dragoon Games for the Price of One!

It had been rumoured, but now it’s been confirmed in the US Official Xbox Magazine. Included in Panzer Dragoon Orta is the original Panzer Dragoon game! It will most likely the Windows version since the Xbox is so similar to a PC internally. Of course it’s unlikely you’ll be able to play the game straight away… you’ll have to earn the game through Pandra’s Box which will give players something to look forward to when trying to get 100% shot down ratio on every stage.

Thanks to Tails of Sega World Weekly for this information.

Those Lucky Japanese Get Panzer Dragoon Orta This Year!

Sega of Japan has announced that Panzer Dragoon Orta is going to be released on December the 19th 2002 in Japan. The game will sell for 6,800 yen (about $US54) so those of you who can’t possibly wait for the American or European version (I know the feeling!) should be able to preorder the Japanese version from somewhere like Lik-Sang or National Console Support soon.

Orta Sings Her Way Onto Xbox

While it is probably not meant to be Orta singing, it is true that the main theme of Panzer Dragoon Orta has been revealed, and in my opinion it is as beautiful as Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu. There is also a new trailer for the game which can be downloaded by following this link. Unfortunately the trailer doesn’t feature the beautiful song, but it can be heard by listening to one of the streaming video links below:

Another Panzer Dragoon Saga?

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

This news is going to get any Panzer Dragoon Saga fan excited and once you hear it you’ll understand why! When IGN visited Tokyo Game Show they spoke to the people at Smilebit. After explaining that the reason Panzer Dragoon Orta was a shoot em up was to reintroduce people to the Panzer Dragoon world, Kawagoe added that if there was going to be a continuation of the Panzer Dragoon series that the next game would be an RPG! Apparently there was a smile on his face as he said this… was he hiding something we don’t know about?

Due to copyright issues I can’t publish the whole article on this site but you can read some of it on this thread at the Die Welt von Panzer Dragoon forum.

Orta Will Be At Tokyo Game Show

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

According to the Panzer Dragoon Official Website, at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, Panzer Dragoon Orta will be on display at SEGA’s and Microsoft’s booths. There’ll be 6 display units at Microsoft’s and 8 at SEGA’s. Both will have some Panzer Dragoon Orta memorabilia for people who visit the show to take home with them. I received a nice Panzer Dragoon Orta pin from a fan who went to E3 so it’ll be interesting to see what sorts of goodies fans will be able to pick up from Tokyo Game Show in several days.

Panzer Dragoon Orta is Delayed Until January 2003

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

The title says it all really. While some people will be devastated at the news of having to wait an extra two months for the game, I’d like to congratulate SEGA for not following the trend of other publishers and rushing the game in time for Christmas sales. We can now expect the final product to be even more impressive than what would have been released in November. But who knows now how long us PAL Xbox owners will have to wait for Panzer Dragoon Orta… April 2003 maybe?

“SEGA decided to delay the release of ‘Panzer Dragoon ORTA’ in order to continue adding innovative features and content to the game and its stunning back story,” said Mike Fischer, vice president, entertainment marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “SEGA has a well-earned reputation for developing industry-leading content, and this decision reflects our commitment to quality.”

Panzer Dragoon Official Website Updated

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

I don’t usually post updates on other websites, but this is certainly worth a mention. The Panzer Dragoon Official Website, has been given a new design and some added content. The most interesting addition to the site is the World section which explains the background story. Although the Babelfish translation wasn’t very easy to understand, it seems a drone (possibly the one we saw in the E3 Trailer) is leading a new empire and has created biological weapons in some sort of “life furnace”. I’ll post more info as it becomes clearer. There are also some new wallpapers on the official site which can be downloaded from the links below:

Panzer Dragoon Orta Will Have Surround Sound

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in News

In a press release, Dolby Laboratories and Sega of America announced that Panzer Dragoon Orta will feature Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Judging by the quality of past Panzer Dragoon soundtracks and now the addition of surround sound, Panzer Dragoon Orta may sound even better than previous titles in the series!

“Dolby Digital will give players information that cannot be visually described on-screen,” said Akihiko Mukaiyama, director of Panzer Dragoon ORTA. “With the control system in Panzer Dragoon ORTA, players can look freely to the front, back, left and right while they are flying, allowing them to anticipate key plot points or enemies approaching from different directions, which makes game play experience that much more immersive.”

Sega has confirmed that the latest instalment of the Panzer Dragoon series, Panzer Dragoon Orta for Xbox, will be released in North America on November the 2nd. The Japanese version will come out almost two months beforehand, sometime in September. This still leaves European Panzer Dragoon fans wondering when they can get their hands on the next instalment of the classic dragon riding series.
