Trailers Added to The Will of the Ancients

I’ve added four trailers to the site’s Videos section. Relating to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed I’ve added the original reveal trailer along with the more in-depth release date reveal trailer. Both trailers cover the Dragon Canyon level which is based on the Panzer Dragoon series. There’s just over two months until the game arrives on multiple platforms.

I’ve also added the original Project Draco trailer from Tokyo Game Show 2010. The music in that the trailer still brings a smile. However, my favourite of the four trailers is the May 2012 Crimson Dragon trailer which I’ve embedded here for emphasis:

Video Details for "Crimson Dragon May 2012 Trailer"

Seeing that trailer was what skyrocketed my excitement for Futatsugi’s new dragon combat game. With a side story to Crimson Dragon coming out soon it looks like the main game is still happening, even if no release date is in sight. The wait continues.

Panzer Dragoon Zwei Mug Photos

I’ve uploaded some photos of the official Panzer Dragoon Zwei coffee mug to The Will of the Ancients. Previously, we only had a scan taken from the Panzer Dragoon OVA companion book, but thanks to PXL we now have six photos of the mug and the box it came in, shown from different angles.

PXL has sent me more pictures, so you can expect new photos of other Panzer Dragoon products soon. But right now I suddenly have the urge to go and buy a coffee, although I imagine the cup it comes in won’t be anywhere near as cool.

The Will of the Ancients on Google Plus

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve set up a Google Plus page for The Will of the Ancients. Like our Twitter and Facebook pages, the Google Plus page will feature links to news and content featured on The Will of the Ancients, along with other short updates.

All three microblogs will feature the same content, so if you prefer to use Google Plus instead of Facebook and Twitter you now have the option of using it exclusively for getting your fix of Panzer Dragoon and Crimson Dragon news. If a significant number of you follow The Will of the Ancients on Google Plus I’ll keep the page running, although if there is little interest I may remove the page to keep things simple.

Panzer Dragoon Enigma Fan Art

I’ve added another piece of Panzer Dragoon fan art to the site.

Panzer Dragoon Enigma

This one is called “Panzer Dragoon Enigma” and is based on the characters Normeena and Enigma from the web comic Dragon Tails dressed up as Orta and her dragon. Thanks to Sycle for contributing this one.

Five New Pieces of Fan Art

I’ve added an additional five pieces of fan art. The first three are older sketches from Ancode of the characters Azel and Orta. There are also two pieces of fan art from Asobinotori which was created for a dōjinshi (self published work) that is planned for a future release. Going by the quality of these two pictures I hope it goes ahead. You can view the pictures by clicking on the thumbnails below.

A Large Batch of Fan Art

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Yesterday I was browsing deviantART and came across a number of pieces of Panzer Dragoon fan art. Linked below are the pictures that I’ve received permission to add to The Will of the Ancients. There may be more in the future from artists who have yet to write back to me. For now I hope you’ll enjoy this great selection:

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing: Orta Blitzkrieg Wing Azel Panzer Dragoon Saga Jet Set Laser Dragon Blue Dragon Sprite When Day Breaks The Coming Darkness The Coming Darkness (No Background) Dark Dragon With Large Wings Kyle and the Blue Dragon Commission The Dark Dragon Shooting a Laser The Young, Courageous Orta

With all these pictures, you can see more of the artist’s work by visiting the website linked from their dragoon profile.

The Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing picture is especially appropriate, given that a Panzer Dragoon track will be featured in the game’s upcoming sequel. Now if only Sumo Digital would include a Panzer Dragoon driver/racer pair in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The morphing dragon is an ideal fit for a racer, while any of the dragon’s riders would be suitable for the driver. In Panzer Dragoon Zwei there were running and flying sections, and I’m sure with a bit of creative tinkering they could add the ability to hover along water to one of Lagi’s forms.

New Fan Pictures: 3D Model and Magazine Cover

I’ve added a couple of new fan pictures to the site. First off is a picture of a 3D model of the Base Wing from Panzer Dragoon Orta. The model is a work in progress so we may replace the image with an updated version at a later date (I’ll post another update if the changes are significant). I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Thanks to Contemplate Cast for contributing it.

There’s also another piece of fan art. This one is from French Panzer Dragoon fan, Orioto. It’s a beautiful image that was created for the front cover of Pix’n Love, a French retro gaming magazine. The image shows multiple dragons flying over a body of water approaching sunset (or maybe shortly after sunrise) with what appears to be the Blue Dragon flying almost directly over the sun.

You can find more pictures from these artists on the deviantART pages linked in their profiles.

The People Who Made the Panzer Dragoon Series

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

We’ve started a new set of encyclopaedia entries focusing on the people who contributed to making the Panzer Dragoon games. We’ll likely cover people involved in Crimson Dragon in the future too. To start the new People category, I’ve created two entries.

The first entry is about Eri Itô, who is best known for singing the songs Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu in Panzer Dragoon Saga and Anu Orta Veniya in Panzer Dragoon Orta.

The second entry is about Maaya Sakamoto, who provided the voice of Azel in both Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta.

I hope you enjoy learning more about the people behind the Panzer Dragoon series. If you can assist with this section in any way, please let us know.

Azel, Everyone's Favourite Fan Art Character

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve added a new piece of fan art to The Will of the Ancients. This one is another picture of Azel who is apparently the most popular Panzer Dragoon Saga character among fans, at least based on the number of fan-created pictures of her.

Azel Ancient Ruin Wall

This particular picture was created by Jack-R-Abbit and has been on deviantART since 2007, so it may seem familiar for that reason. The picture shows Azel blended into the definitive Ancient pattern as if she was one with it, perhaps to symbolise her planned role of being just one more part of the Ancient system.

I’ve created a short encyclopaedia entry about the Basic Wing, the first form that Edge’s dragon appears as in Panzer Dragoon Saga. There will be more entries about the forms of Edge’s dragon to come in no particular order, so if you have any preference for which entry should come next, please let me know.

Panzer Dragoon Saga Guide Translations - Part 2

Avatar

Published by Draikin in Contributions

Some time ago we posted the first batch of translations from the Panzer Dragoon Saga guidebooks. Today we can add another two translated pages to the collection. This article gives us more insight in the nature of the humanoid lifeforms called drones. In particular the article also focuses on one of Panzer Dragoon Saga’s main characters, the drone Azel. The translated text contains more details about her original programming and how she developed her own personality over the course of Panzer Dragoon Saga. You can read all this and more by following this link:

Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG guide book page 154-155

It’s also interesting to note that the information in this article seems to match the information in the Drone Record, which could only be found in a certain file on one of the Panzer Dragoon Saga CDs and wasn’t used in the actual game. With this new information we now have a more complete view on the story and its characters than ever before. Once again our thanks go to GlitterBerri for her work on this translation!

The Definitive Dragon

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

As the first entry in a new Dragon Forms category of the encyclopaedia, I’ve created an entry for the iconic Blue Dragon. This is the form that the dragon is in throughout the original Panzer Dragoon, but the form is also playable in every other Panzer Dragoon game, either as part of the main game or as an unlockable bonus. The encyclopaedia entry also covers the Blue Dragon’s appearance in the Panzer Dragoon Original Video Animation.

In addition, here’s a link to some cleaner footage of Dragon Canyon from Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, posted on GameTrailers.com. You’ll see lots of the Blue Dragon there too.

New Fan Art of Lagi

Squeedge Monster has submitted a new piece of fan art.

Shiny Lagi

The picture is of Lagi in one of his earliest forms from Panzer Dragoon Zwei, but more shiny than usual. More of Squeedge Monster’s drawings can be viewed on deviantArt.

I have another update that is almost ready; we are just in the process of giving it final proof-read.

Crimson Dragon Websites

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Some of these websites have been around for a while now, while others contain fresh content.

The first site is the Grounding Inc. site, the official website of the creators of Crimson Dragon. There are English and Japanese versions, although the Japanese version has considerably more content than the English version. On the English version you’ll find some information and screenshots about the game, including a statement that Crimson Dragon will be powered by the Unreal Engine 3 (used by many modern games and created by Epic for games such as Gears of War). The Japanese version contains more content, including information about other Grounding projects and an online shop.

Grounding Inc. can also be followed on Twitter and liked on Facebook although these pages are only available in Japanese.

I recently linked to the English Crimson Dragon page on Xbox.com, and it turns out that there is a Japanese page as well. Like Grounding’s website, it contains significantly more content than the English version. Although automatic translations by services such as Google Translate aren’t perfect, I found the Info page very interesting, along with the Glossary page. The Glossary contains a list of names used in Crimson Dragon, as well as some background plot details to go with each. I’ve leave you to discover the site for yourself, although I will say that when I read the name of a particular faction from Crimson Dragon, the Panzer Dragoon Saga fan in me felt a warm glow inside.

I’ve added all of these websites to the Links section for future reference.

Crimson Dragon Concept Art and Screenshots

This news entry doesn’t contain any content that’s particularly new; it can be seen as a summary previously released content. I’ve added all of the concept art and screenshots of Crimson Dragon that have been released so far to The Will of the Ancients’ gallery. If I’ve failed to include some pictures here, please let me know. Here are the concept art pictures:

Azel Doll and Orta Cosplay

This news entry consists of a backlog of content that I have been meaning to add for some time. Firstly, I’d like to apologise to Razia for the delay in adding the photos of her custom made Azel doll. That’s what happens when I don’t check my deviantArt notes in five years. So without further delay, you can view photos of Razia’s Azel doll using the following links:

Pattergo and Urchins

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Here are two new encyclopaedia entries that I have created. They’re about two of the enemies that Edge and his dragon encounter in the valley area of Panzer Dragoon Saga, Pattergo and Urchins. The entries contain information on both the male and female types of these creatures.

I hope someone finds them interesting, although I won’t be put out you’re all too busy reading the previous news entry and ignore this one. ;)

Cameos in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Avatar

Published by Draikin in Contributions

We were pleasantly surprised to see that Sega and Sumo Digital’s recently announced Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed contains a race track called “Dragon Canyon” dedicated entirely to the Panzer Dragoon series. In the recent videos they’ve released we’ve noticed a number of cameos from the different Panzer Dragoon games, so we thought it would be a good idea to compile all the ones we found so far in this new article:

Cameos in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

As you can read in the article, we found that Dragon Canyon actually includes cameos from all four Panzer Dragoon games, which shows just how much effort Sumo Digital has put into making this new track. A big thanks goes to them for remembering these classic games!

More Encyclopaedia Entries

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve created encyclopaedia entries for two of my favourite monster types in the Panzer Dragoon series, Baldors and Lathums. The baldors entry also includes information about the queen baldors that Edge and his dragon encounter in Panzer Dragoon Saga and of course both entries cover the variations of these monsters that players encounter in Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Along with these two entries, I’ve also created an encyclopaedia entry about the Continent where the Panzer Dragoon games take place.

The Ancient Factions

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve created new encyclopaedia entries for the two Ancient factions mentioned in the guide book translations (see previous news entry). The Technology Preservation Faction represented those who supported the Towers and biotechnology of the old world, while the Technology Destruction Faction sought to put an stop to this technology controlling the fate of humanity. I welcome any feedback on these entries or any others in the encyclopaedia as we can continue to improve this resource.

You can expect more encyclopaedia entries soon.

Panzer Dragoon Saga Guide Translations

Avatar

Published by Draikin in Contributions

For its release in Japan, Panzer Dragoon Saga had been accompanied by a total of three different guide books. However, none of those made it to the Western market and the details they contained about the game’s storyline were never translated. Fifteen years after the release of the game, this is finally going to change. The Will of the Ancients has commissioned GlitterBerri to work on the translation of certain pages from the guidebooks. These contain detailed information about the events before and during Panzer Dragoon Saga which the Western fans never had access to. As you can read on her website, GlitterBerri has been responsible for numerous unofficial translations of game-related content, making her the ideal person for the job.

Today we can show you the first results of this joint project. These are the English translations for six pages from the “Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG guide book”, and they can be found here:

Ever wondered about the origin of the iconic dragon of the Panzer Dragoon games? Or what happened between the two rivaling factions of the Ancient Age? You’ll finally find the answers to those and many other questions in these translations. Along with clarifying the events in the game, they also show just how much effort Team Andromeda put into creating the amazing world of the Panzer Dragoon games. We at The Will of the Ancients hope the Panzer Dragoon fans will enjoy reading all this new information as much as we did.

Panzer Dragoon Miniatures

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve added some photos of miniatures created by Kazutake to The Will of the Ancients. These photos have been online for some time now, but finding them was difficult for English speaking Panzer Dragoon fans who had to navigate their way through Kazutake’s Japanese site. The miniatures are as follows:

Arm Wing Miniature (1 of 4) Base Wing Miniature (1 of 4) Blue Dragon Miniature (1 of 4) Dragon Pup Miniature (1 of 3) Glide Dragon Miniatures (1 of 2) Golia Hunter Miniature (1 of 3) Golia Miniature (1 of 4) Panzer Wing Miniature (1 of 4) Shelcoof Miniature (10 of 12) Skydart Miniature (1 of 4)

You can find all of the photos linked from Kazutake’s dragoon profile, including photos of multiple angles of each of the miniatures. The construction process photos of the Shelcoof miniature are especially interesting.

Farewell 2011

For this update, we have two new pieces of fan art from Atolm. The first is a picture of the wounded Sky Rider which I’ve called “The Sky Rider Bleeds”. The image shows the dying dragon rider releasing blood, a much more human way of dying than the green particles that float away from him in the actual game. Secondly, Atolm has submitted a new picture of Lagi showing his first and final form in Panzer Dragoon Zwei, the pup and Solo Wing Normal Class respectively.

The Sky Rider Bleeds Lagi: Pup and Adult

This update will most likely be the last update of the year for The Will of the Ancients. While 2011 has been slow on the Panzer front, we have received many new details about Futatsugi’s latest project, Project Draco. 2012 will bring more details about the game when it is released on Xbox Live Arcade. When it comes to Panzer Dragoon, we have a big update planned for this website that we’re in the process of finalising.

Have a great new year’s celebration and don’t let anyone talk you into sculling an illuminating drink.

Lots of New Fan Art

This update consists of lots of twenty pieces of art to grace the Fan Art section, as well as a photograph. Firstly, Emma Goodman has contributed a touching picture of Edge petting his faithful steed. You can see more of Emma’s artwork at her website, Neoncola.

We also have contributions from Peter Gibbins, the founder of the Panzer Dragoon fans Facebook group. He has submitted a photograph of his bedroom door from around eleven years ago, themed around Panzer Dragoon Saga (how cool is that)? Peter has also contributed two coloured pictures, one of the Stripe Wing, the other of the armoured Blue Dragon. There is also a pencil sketch of the Blue Dragon.

Finally, I’ve added all of the Panzer Dragoon fan art from the Japanese fan site, Twilight Primary School, to The Will of the Ancients. You can find all sixteen pictures in the Fan Art section.

New and Updated Articles

Who or what were the Ancients? When keeping in mind how lost their identity was with the passage of time, it’s perhaps better to ask not who they were, but what they were. I made an attempt to gather together the few clues in the form of what we actually know about them that were scattered around, and fit them together like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to create a bigger picture in an attempt to answer that very question. This was something I had planned to do for a long time, but never had the chance until now. I hope you enjoy reading this summary of the Ancients’ possible identity as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I’ve been away for too long, so I’m glad to find The Will of the Ancients still alive and kicking, and we’re going to keep it that way. Expect some changes in the near future. I’ve been updating a few articles here and there in order to bring them up to a proper standard including my old Skies of Arcadia article, which really needed it. I felt the need to give what I feel is a spiritual sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga the justice it deserves.

Unfortunately we cannot hope that Panzer Dragoon has a future in any meaningful way, but perhaps that is for the best; I personally don’t want the future of this series in the hands of someone who doesn’t respect the source material anyway.

Farewell for now fellow travellers.
