The Art of Panzer Dragoon Zwei

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve moved all of the Panzer Dragoon Zwei art from The Art of Panzer Dragoon to The Will of the Ancients and linked the images to our encyclopaedia. Some image names have been updated to better reflect the English translation (this image for example, is no longer called “Ragi”), but most have been named similar to what was printed in the guidebook. Since Panzer Dragoon Zwei never named the enemy creatures in-game, the Japanese guidebook remains the best source for creature and ship names.

Next will be the large task of moving The Art of Panzer Dragoon’s extensive Panzer Dragoon Saga image collection to The Will of the Ancients.

Moving the Art of Panzer Dragoon

A while back, we added Lagi: The Art of Panzer Dragoon as a subsite on The Will of the Ancients. Since Lagi no longer wished to continue running this archive of Panzer Dragoon artwork, it was natural to move the art here.

Since Lagi’s site was originally designed as a separate site, it is not practical to integrate it with the encyclopaedia here. For this reason, and to simplify the setup here, I’ve decided to move the art to The Will of the Ancients itself. This will be a gradual process. For now, you can find just the Official Art - Panzer Dragoon category in the Pictures section. This art has been linked to the “related pictures” section of relevant encyclopaedia entries, for example in the Panzer Dragoon entry.

You can expect more images to be moved across and integrated into the encyclopaedia over the next few weeks. In the long term, I aim to merge the content from other discontinued subsites such as The Panzer Place into The Will of the Ancients as well.

A backlog of new content has been mounting up. If you’ve sent me content that I haven’t added yet, it’s because I’ve been busy.

My thanks go to Uruc Art for this picture, based not on Panzer Dragoon, but a similar world:

The Successor of the Azure

Some more time-sensitive challenges recently became available for Crimson Dragon, including one that would unlock a new dragon just for loading up the game. This new dragon is called the “Blackbone Lazward”, aka “Successor of the Azure”. It is light element, it cannot change attribute and it does not evolve. It starts out fairly weak but the level caps out at 20 like the Void dragons and it has quite respectable stats by that point.

Successor of the Azure Photo

It’s a recolour of the first stage Blackbone and, as you may have noticed, it bears a passing resemblance to the Solo Wing dragon from the Panzer Dragoon series. The horned crested head, blue skin with orange wings and the silver scales down the back. It’s no coincidence. For some reason it has no entry in the database, in fact in unlocks the entry for the Blackbone Eclipse which was available via a challenge a while back.

Video Details for "Blackbone Lazward Demo"

The video I’ve included above shows you the dragon, compares it to the Blackbone Radiance, and demonstrates the dragon via a play through of the Thinning the Herd level. You have until the 3rd of December to load the game up to get this dragon. Makes me wonder if any other dragons have third variants hidden away.

Note: There are also challenges rerunning for two Void dragons giving you another shot at the Darkshoulder Chaos and Silvertail Nightmare. You need to get five S ranks with the Darkshoulder and ten S ranks with the Silvertail.

Shelcoof Constructed in Minecraft

Nathaniel Daught has made a construction of Shelcoof - created entirely within Minecraft. Screenshots and a video are available on his Tumblr blog. I’ve uploaded these to our archive:

Really awesome work, Nathaniel. I thought it would only be a matter of time before someone attempted to recreate part of the Panzer Dragoon world in Minecraft. The architecture of the Panzer world is too definitive and unique not to be used.

If any Minecraft players out there can advise us of how to abstract this construction of Shelcoof from Minecraft, we can host it as a downloadable file on The Will of the Ancients. Contact @networkshadow on Twitter if you can help.

Introducing Fan Art Friday

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Due to the lack of new Panzer Dragoon content, I’ve decided to start re-posting existing fan art on our Facebook and Twitter pages. There’s so much great Panzer Dragoon fan art on this site, it is shame to keep it hidden away until someone decides to browse the gallery. I’ll tag this content with #fanartfriday so that you can tell it apart from new fan art. You may see some other types of content as well if I feel there’s other older content that should be shared (#musicalmonday anyone?).

These posts won’t appear the The Will of the Ancients website, but if you’re not on Facebook or Twitter you can always browse the Pictures section whenever you want. You can also subscribe to our Atom feed if you use a news reader and just want to receive these news entries and nothing else.

I’ve also decided to stop posting updates to Google+. While the Saturn owner in me has a soft spot for minority platforms, Google hasn’t made it easy to automate posting to their social network. With only seventeen followers it just isn’t worth keeping Google+ updated as it slows the process of adding new content. So please consider the Google+ page discontinued and follow us on Twitter or Facebook instead.

Browse The Will of the Ancients Faster With Turbolinks

I’ve updated The Will of the Ancients to use Turbolinks, a library that makes browsing web pages faster. Now when you click a link to another page within The Will of the Ancients, only the page title and body will be refreshed (rather than the whole page) making your browsing experience feel snappier.

Older browsers are no longer supported. If you’re having trouble browsing the site you should upgrade to Safari 6+, Internet Explorer 10+, the latest version of Chrome or Firefox, or an equivalent browser. Be sure to have JavaScript enabled too.

And now something a bit different. Synbios16 has created two pieces of art using Perler beads:

Blue Dragon (Perler Beads) Base Wing (Perler Beads)

Synbios16 tells me, “If you’re not familiar with Perler beads, basically they’re little plastic beads, 5 millimeters wide, that you place one at a time on a board, then melt together using a regular clothing iron.”

Remastered Version of Atolm Dragon

Pedro Carroggio has contributed a remastered version of Panzer Dragoon Saga’s definitive track “Atolm Dragon”. Listen to the original and then this enhanced version; the difference is clearly noticeable.

Audio Details for "Panzer Dragoon Saga - Atolm Dragon Remastered"

I’ve also updated the Music section to support lossless FLAC files, along with the existing MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files. While Pedro’s track is currently the only piece of music available in FLAC format, in the future we may update existing music tracks with a FLAC version (where one is available). If you’ve previously contributed music to The Will of the Ancients it would be great if you could send us a lossless version.

That’s all for this update. Thanks also to everyone else who has sent contributions to The Will of the Ancients my way. My spare time is limited, so it’s likely that these contributions will be slowly drip-fed onto the site. You’ll have more Panzer Dragoon content to look forward to at least.

Solo Wing's Crimson Dragon Review

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

Here it is, my full review of Crimson Dragon. I hope you find it informative, especially if you’re still trying to decide whether or not to buy the game.

I deliberately didn’t give the game a score, either out of ten or a percentage. This is because I believe reviews are much more useful if you read and reflect on the details, using them to decide which criticisms apply to your personal taste in the gaming. A number cannot provide this kind of information.

New Fan Art of Atolm From Atolm

Avatar

Published by Solo Wing in Contributions

I’ve uploaded a new piece of fan art from Atolm. I have named the picture “Battle With Atolm”. It depicts one of the fights between the two dragons featured in Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Battle With Atolm

Although this picture is technically unfinished (and will likely remain so), as usual Atolm has done a great job of depicting the dragons from the Panzer Dragoon series.
