The Imperial Capital (Post-Great Fall)
- Panzer Dragoon Orta
The enormous Imperial capital of the post-Great Fall Empire was built around an excavation site of an Ancient ruin. It had a population of over one hundred thousand people. The part of the capital where both the Cradle and these underground ruins were situated was known as the “military research district”. Orta and her dragon had to make their way through this entire structure in episode 8 of Panzer Dragoon Orta, ‘Imperial City’, entering at the bottom of the ruin and fighting their way upwards.
By excavating the Ancient ruins in the research district, the Empire uncovered the secrets behind the technology of the Ancient Age, allowing them to build powerful ships and weapons. The research district had an entire rail system that was used for transport of materials and probably workers to the different levels of the area. Lots of small houses were also situated there, which most likely served as a home for the workers. Devices known as ‘artificial suns’ provided a natural light to illuminate the underground structure.
Aside from a large number of dragonmare embryos that were being stored in this research district, the Imperials also held a live catharp that was chained to a huge construction. Although it was not confirmed, it is possible that this catharp was the same creature that had been defeated by Orta and her dragon in episode 3 of Panzer Dragoon Orta. The Imperials seemed to be conducting experiments on the creature and had already removed its legs, before Orta and her dragon finally put the creature out of its misery.
In an area close to the surface of the excavation site, the Assault Carrier Vermana was being repaired after its previous battle with Orta and her dragon. However, before these repairs were completed the ship had to battle Orta and her dragon once again in an attempt to stop the pair from escaping the facility. The battle ended with the Vermana being defeated once again.
The facility starts to collapse.
A view from above the outer disc.
By the time Orta and her dragon were nearing the exit, the facility started to collapse. The exit led to an enormous disc, surrounded by four pillars, with the Cradle was floating above it. The purpose of this disc is unknown, and the Empire didn’t seem to have any use for it, except as an entrance and exit to the ruins. The final battle between Orta and the Imperial Defense Unit Bacharsuha gives us a view of the Imperial capital, which would soon be caught up in a battle between dragonmares, the Wormriders and Imperial ships. Panzer Dragoon Orta does not confirm exactly how much damage the battle caused to the capital and the underground ruins or if that damage was enough to lead to the end of the new Empire.
